1. Acceptance of terms

By downloading, installing, or using the Hisaab mobile application ("App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. These terms apply to all users including individuals using Split mode, Freelance mode, or both.

2. Description of service

Hisaab is a personal finance management application that provides:

• Expense tracking and categorization
• Friend balance tracking and split bill management
• Group expense management with multiple split options
• Freelancer project, client, and developer management
• Monthly reports and dashboard summaries

3. User accounts

To use Hisaab, you must register with a valid mobile number. You are responsible for:

• Maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials
• All activity that occurs under your account
• Providing accurate information during registration and profile setup
• Notifying us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to use Hisaab to:

• Upload or transmit unlawful, fraudulent, or harmful content
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other accounts or servers
• Reverse engineer or decompile any part of the application
• Use the app for illegal financial activities or money laundering
• Harass, abuse, or harm any other users

5. Financial data disclaimer

Hisaab is a personal record-keeping tool only. We do not provide financial advice, and the App is not a banking or payment service. Any amounts tracked in the app are user-entered records. Hisaab is not responsible for any financial decisions made based on data in the app.

6. Availability and changes

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the app at any time with or without notice. We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

7. Intellectual property

All content, UI, logos, and code within Hisaab are the intellectual property of the app's creators. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the app for personal, non-commercial purposes only.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Hisaab and its creators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the app or inability to use it.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of courts in India.

1. Data we collect

When you use Hisaab, we collect the following:

• Account data: Mobile number, name, profile photo (optional), use case preference
• Expense data: Amounts, categories, payment method, notes, and dates you enter
• Friend/group data: Names and amounts related to balances you track
• Project data: Client names, project amounts, developer info you enter
• Device info: Device type, OS version, app version for debugging purposes

2. How we use your data

We use your data exclusively to:

• Provide and improve the app's features and dashboard
• Authenticate your account via OTP and JWT
• Aggregate your own expenses into monthly reports
• Sync data across devices when you log in
• Debug technical issues and improve app stability

We do not use your financial data for advertising, profiling, or selling to third parties.

3. Data storage and security

Your data is stored on MongoDB Atlas (cloud database) with industry-standard encryption. All API communication is secured via HTTPS. Authentication uses JWT tokens with expiry. We follow best practices to protect your data, but no system is 100% secure — use the app responsibly.

4. Data sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties, except:

• With cloud providers (MongoDB Atlas, Render) necessary to run the service
• If required by law or court order in India
• To protect the rights and safety of our users

5. Your rights

As a user, you have the right to:

• Access and export your data on request
• Correct inaccurate data in your account
• Delete your account and all associated data
• Withdraw consent for data collection by deleting your account

6. OTP and phone number

Your phone number is used solely for account authentication via OTP. We do not use your phone number for marketing, SMS campaigns, or share it with third parties for any purpose.

7. Data retention

We retain your account and associated data as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all data is permanently removed within 30 days from our servers and backups.

8. Children's privacy

Hisaab is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us to have it removed.

9. Policy changes

We may update this policy as the app evolves. We'll notify users via the app if changes are significant. Continued use after updates means you accept the revised policy.
